Diddy Makes A Deal

Sean Combs, or Diddy, as he is known to the public, has made a deal with Ciroc Vodka to begin a brand building campaign. More than just a rapper, Diddy is now very well-known for his celebrity endorsements and business deals. One of his other big endorsements is for Proactiv, which has apparently done very well.

Diddy claims that it's not just an endorsement deal, but that he will have a 50/50 share in the profits and that he will be giving this brand his daily attention. He is not just a celebrity rapper, you know, he is a brand ambassador. But I think I liked him better when he was just making music. Even though he changed his name a whole bunch of times (Puff Daddy, Puffy, P Diddy, Diddy....), he was still a good music artist. I think my favorite song of his was 'It's All About The Benjamins'. That was definitely a good song.

What was the last song that Diddy has come out with anyway? Does anyone know? Please post a comment to fill me in if you have the answer!

Amy Winehouse Will Be Performing on the MtvU Woodie Awards on November 15

I was really glad to hear that Amy Winehouse is going to be performing again. After all of the drama she's been through recently in her life, it will be good to see her on stage. All of her US performances had been cancelled which her record label said was "in a continued effort to support Amy Winehouse's well-being". Amy Winehouse's songs are a modern twist on smokey, sultry blues with a sexy twist. Her song "You Know I'm No Good" is just really different from what you usually hear on the radio. It's really gritty, and I do hope to hear more of her songs in the future. As a nominee, she will be performing on November 15th, at the MtvU Woodie awards, which is MTV's 24-hour college network.
Some of the other nominees include Linkin Park, Gym Class Heros, Lily Allen, and more.
If you haven't seen it yet, go ahead and check out Amy Winehouse's video:

Hope her performance goes well!

This Could Happen To You!

Think you're having a bad day? Not compared to Jammie Thomas! Ms. Thomas was just fined $220,000 for illegal music downloads and music file sharing on the internet. A few of the major music record labels sought damages for 24 of the 1,702 songs she is accused of offering for download through the file sharing program Kazaa. That's $9,250 PER SONG!

This type of file sharing is considered to be illegal because it violates copyright laws. The U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act is very strict. It says that the copying of copyrighted music, other than making a copy for your own use, is illegal. It is even considered illegal to purchase a CD and convert the files to MP3 format for your own use, because it is considered unauthorized adaptation.

The laws can be confusing, but you want to make sure you are doing the right thing. Free is great, but not at the loss of your favorite artists. They do need to get paid to entertain us, because that is what they do for a living. If the musicians had to do it for free, I'm sure there would be a lot less music going around - who wants to work for free?

If you are concerned about the rules of internet piracy and you want to make sure you are following the guidelines, you can check out this overview of the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

So, be honest, how many of you have ever downloaded something from the internet that you weren't sure if it was legal or not? If you found out what you did was illegal, would you still do it again? Feel free to comment and let us know your thoughts on this very touchy subject!
