3 Doors Down

Hailing from the small town of Escatawpa, MS, near Biloxi, 3 Doors Down forged a major-label contract using popular live shows and the reputation of a single song. Their hit, “Kryptonite,” generated

unprecedented buzz at local radio station WCPR in Biloxi, helping to make them hometown favorites and enabling them to draw relatively large crowds to their local live shows, which consequently, helped them extend their range beyond Mississippi and the deep south.

Originally a trio consisting of vocalist and drummer Brad Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell, the band soon added guitarist Chris Henderson and retained a studio drummer so that Arnold could come forward and sing live. The CBGB's show brought them to the attention of Republic Records, a subsidiary of Universal, which issued the band's major-label debut, The Better Life, in early 2000. Away From the Sun arrived in November 2002, debuting at number eight on the Billboard Top 200 and soon went gold. Three Doors Down toured steadily throughout 2003 and 2004 in support of Away From the Sun, and issued the live EP Another 700 Miles in November 2003 as a holdover between studio efforts.

The group returned with the LP Seventeen Days in February 2005. It debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and went platinum in its first week of release. The record's first single “Let Me Go” was released to rock radio in December 2004 and was already Top 10 on most rock stations nationwide and climbing the Top Twenty of Billboard's various rock charts, at the time of the album release.

3 Doors Down have had six #1 singles—“Kryptonite,” “Duck & Run,” “Loser,” “Be Like That,” “When I'm Gone” and “Here Without You,”—making them one of the most popular and consistently successful rock bands in recent history. According to Billboard Magazine, they were the first debut act to ever have had a #1 single at four different radio formats simultaneously with “Kryptonite” and the quintet went on to win the 2003 Billboard Music Awards for “Best Pop/Rock Group” and “Best Hot 100 Single,” as well as earning the distinction of seeing “When I'm Gone” become the most played song in 2003 according to the Nielson Vegas for Artist of the Year: Modern AC Radio. In the past four years, 3 Doors Down have moved from accomplishment to accomplishment, clearly establishing themselves as an exceptional band, both in the studio and on stage.
